With the 2008-09 academic year opening on Monday, Aug. 25, Fremont County School District 25 finds enrollment numbers up slightly from last year’s opening, but down slightly from the end of school in May.
The total of 2,322 students reporting to the Riverton classrooms Monday is up 1.5 percent from the opening of school last year. The only enrollment loss is at the high school level, with 28 fewer students in grades 9 through 12.
At the middle school, enrollment is up this year by seven from a year ago. And in Riverton’s four elementary schools, the “first-day” enrollment is up by 57 from the opening-day a year ago.
Lincoln Elementary, whose students will be moving into a new elementary building at semester break, remains the largest of the city’s three K-3 schools with 279 pupils. Ashgrove welcomed 272 on Monday and there were 178 youngsters at Jackson. At the fourth- and fifth-grade Rendezvous School, there are a total of 379 pupils with the opening of the new academic year.
Overall numbers in District 25 are somewhat below the last day of school in May when enrollment totaled 2,350 — 727 in the high school, 519 in the middle school, and 1,104 in the elementary grades.
