Dozens turn out for annual Lander Hershey track meet
By Bruce Tippets
Sports Editor
A high turnout of Lander youth took part in the 2008 Hershey Track and Field meet Tuesday at Bill Bush Memorial Stadium.
Program director Sara Felix said athletes in the one-day meet ranged from 9 to 14 years old.
“We had 82 kids in the meet,” Felix said. “It was way up from last few years, where we had 40 to 50.”
Felix said the big reason for the jump in athletes was the fact that the West and South Elementary schools had their field day prior to the meet.
“That helped out a lot,” Felix said.
The most popular division was the 11-12 age bracket.
The top two in each event now qualify for the state meet planned for Saturday, June 28 in Jackson.
